Li Xin

LI Xin, holding a doctoral degree in Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, is a researcher in Translation and Interpreting Studies and an instructor of College English at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Since 2004, she has taught various courses including New Horizon College English, A Survey of British and American Culture, English Listening and Speaking, etc. Due to her professional dedication, she received the SJTU New Star Teaching Award and the SJTU Teaching Achievement Award in 2010, the SJTU “Zhu Guang” Award in 2011, the SJTU Excellent Young Teacher Award in 2013 and the SJTU Outstanding Teacher Award in 2016.

Apart from teaching and researching, LI Xin worked as SOFL’s liaison with the Office of International Affairs of SJTU from 2006 to 2007. In the following academic year, she taught Chinese at St. Edwards University, theUnited States, as a Fulbright FLTA scholar and cultural ambassador.

Drawing on her teaching experience, she has authored and co-authored a series of well-received textbooks including Oral English Workshop, College English Fast Reading, Topway CET-4 Listening Express, etc.

LI Xin’s academic interests mainly lie in corpus-based translation/interpreting studies and SFL-informed discourse analysis. Her publications include ‘A Corpus-based Study of the Use of Passive Construction and Its Motivation in Chinese-English Conference Interpretation’ (Contemporary Foreign Languages Studies 2011), ‘A Corpus-based Study of Modal Verbs in Chinese-English Government Press Conference Interpretation’ (Computer-assisted Foreign Language Education 2013), and ‘A Corpus-based Study of Interpretiveness of Chinese-English Press Conference Interpreting’ (Foreign Language Learning Theory and Practice 2015).

Currently, LI Xin is the principal investigator of an MOE (Ministry of Education in China) Project featuring SFL-informed discourse analysis of Chinese government press conference interpreting.
