Tao Qing

Tao Qing, graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University with a BS in 1991, is at present giving undergraduates and postgraduates courses in advanced listening skills in English, English-Chinese interpreting skills, practice in English-Chinese translation, intercultural communication, etc. He is the author of an award-winning textbook A practical course in English Chinese interpreting published in 2006, and a recipient of SJTU Teaching Excellence Award in 2007 and 2010 respectively.

Apart from teaching, Tao Qing, with more than a dozen years of experience in conference interpreting, is actively involved in a good many translation/interpreting projects. In fact, he has provided interpreting service to delegations visiting USA, UK, Canada, Netherlands, Norway, Germany and Australia on diplomatic and trade missions as well as for academic & cultural exchange.

Some of Tao Qing’s translations in recent years were published in prestigious journals and magazines including HBR, Forbes, Newsweek, among others.Over the years, Tao Qing has visited a number of world renowned universities on study tours which include MIT, UC Berkeley, Stanford University, UCLA, Columbia University, to name but a few.

Drawing on his practical experience in translation/interpreting, Tao Qing works closely with his colleagues on corpus-based translation studies. He is currently conducting research on a university-funded project featuring corpus-based analysis of Chinese-English conference interpreting skills.
