Tian Yan

TIAN Yan is Professor of English in the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She received her Ph.D. in Computational Linguistics from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in December 2008. She earned her M.A. in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Northwestern Polytechnical University in December 1989 and B.A. in English Language & Literature from Shaanxi Normal University in July 1985. From 1987 to 1999, she served as lecturer, associate professor and full professor in the Department of Foreign Languages at Northwestern Polytechnical University. From 1997 to 1998, she was the Visiting Scholar at JCCC, Kansas, U.S.A.. From 1999 to 2002, she held the position of Dean of the Department of Foreign Languages at Wenzhou University. From 2002 to present, she teaches in the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Her research and interests include Computational Linguistics and Intelligent Computer-assisted Language Learning. She has published several articles in EI Compendex journals and proceedings of international conferences. She is currently undertaking two projects: “The automated scoring and intelligent feedback for student English-Chinese translation” and “The intelligent online self-access English learning center”. The awards and honors she received are “Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation Award for Young Teachers” by China State Education Commission, “Baosteel Education Foundation Outstanding Teacher” by Education Foundation of Shanghai Baoshan Steel Group, and “Outstanding Teacher Award” by China’s Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Industry.
